Once you have had your consultation, your notes become one of the most useful tools we have. Small changes are easy to forget by the time we meet again, and they are often the very clues that guide your next step.
- How often
- A few lines, every day
- What to note
- Your remedy, how you feel, any change
- Bring them
- To every check-in and follow-up
- Little ones
- Parents keep the notes
Why it matters
Why notes matter so much.
Follow-ups are usually 4 to 8 weeks apart. That is a long time to remember how you slept three weeks ago, or the day your energy lifted. Your notes show us the whole journey, not just how you feel on the day we meet.
They help us decide what comes next: wait and watch, repeat your remedy, change the potency, or choose a different remedy.
The smallest change you notice can be the biggest clue.
Every day
Daily notes: the essentials.
Daily notes are really important. Just a few lines each day, at the same time (bedtime works well):
- The date and time:
- Your remedy: Its name and potency, how many drops and when you took it
- How you feel overall: A score out of 10 for energy, mood and sleep
- Any slight changes,: However small: a better morning, less of an ache, a calmer afternoon
- Anything new,: Or anything old that has come back
- Anything that might have interfered: Strong coffee or mint near a dose, a big stress, a cold
Mind · Emotions · Body
What to notice.
Small changes in any of these three areas are worth writing down.
Mind
- Focus and memory
- Thoughts that loop, or quieten
- Dreams
Emotions
- Mood through the day
- Tears, outbursts or calm
- Worries, and how big they feel
Body
- Energy, sleep and appetite
- Digestion and your cycle
- Skin, aches and anything new
What to look for
The order changes often come in.
Change in homeopathy tends to follow the direction of healing, so it helps to know what to watch for:
- First, you in yourself: Often more energy, better sleep and a lighter mood
- Then the deeper complaints: Begin to ease
- Then the outer layers: The skin is often one of the last places to settle
- Old symptoms may visit briefly,: Usually from newest to oldest, as older layers move
Feeling better in yourself first is often the most important sign of all.
Big feelings
When emotions come up.
Sometimes, as things begin to shift, feelings come up: a good cry, irritability, an outburst, or old memories surfacing. In homeopathy, this is often seen as emotions that were held in finally moving, and as a healing sign.
Write it down: what came up, when, and how you felt afterwards. Be gentle with yourself, and let me know, especially if the feelings are strong or don't settle.
For parents
Notes for little ones.
For a child, mum or dad keeps the notes. Children can't always explain how they feel, so what you notice is gold:
- Sleep: When they go down, when they wake, what wakes them, and dreams or night fears
- Mood and behaviour: Tantrums, clinginess, play, how they are with others
- Appetite and thirst: What they want, what they refuse, cravings
- Temperature: Do they kick off the covers, or want to be bundled up?
- Toilet or nappies: Anything different from usual
- Skin: Take a dated photo, so we can compare over time
- Their own words: Write down exactly how they describe it
- Who gave the remedy, and when,: If more than one person is caring for them
- Feedback from daycare or school: Can be really helpful too
An example
What a day might look like.
It doesn't need to be long. Here is an example:
- Monday, 9pm:
- Remedy: 3 drops in the morning
- Energy 6/10, mood 7/10, sleep 7/10
- Fell asleep more easily, woke once
- Teary in the afternoon, then felt lighter
- Skin on elbows a little itchy tonight
Make it easy
Tips to keep it going.
- Use the notes app on your phone, or a small notebook by the bed
- Write at the same time each day, so it becomes a habit
- Use your own words. There are no wrong answers
- Take dated photos of anything you can see, like skin
- Email me your notes before your check-in, or bring them to your follow-up
